Our Story

Finca La Holandesa is a family-run coffee business founded by Carolina, a third-generation Colombian coffee farmer and her mother, Luz Nidia, who represents the fourth generation of coffee growers in the family, also with her brother, Dany Javier, who oversees production and processing at the farm.

Our mission is to cultivate exceptional specialty coffee while preserving Colombia’s rich coffee heritage. We grow, process, source, and manage the entire journey of the process, delivering not only our own beans but also those of smallholder farmers from Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Caldas, Antioquia, Cauca, Nariño, Huila, Cesar, and beyond, to customers in Colombia, Europe, and worldwide.

We focus on three core areas:

  • Specialty Coffee Production – Using sustainable, eco-friendly farming methods that protect biodiversity and maximize efficiency.
  • Research & Development – Innovating with coffee byproducts, including natural fertilizers and bio-polymers for organic products.
  • Sourcing & Market Access – Connecting smallholder farmers to global markets and international coffee events.

As an SCA Member we are committed to excellence and continuous learning in the specialty coffee industry. We roast coffee in the Netherlands with trusted partners, and we operate our own micro-roastery, using an Aillio Bullet and a Kaffelogic Nano 7, allowing us to experiment, profile, and perfect unique roasts for our customers.

At Finca La Holandesa, we are dedicated to quality, innovation, and sustainability, supporting farmers, protecting the environment, and sharing the finest Colombian coffee with the world

The Team

Carolina

Born in Colombia and now living in the Netherlands with her partner and three children, Carolina brings a deep connection to coffee that spans generations. Originally from Tolima, with family roots in Risaralda and a strong heritage in the Eje Cafetero, she is a passionate advocate for supporting campesinos (smallholder farmers). Carolina studied Occupational Health and now leads the sourcing and general management of Finca La Holandesa.

In the Netherlands, she represents our coffee and that of other Colombian farmers at events such as the Amsterdam Coffee Festival, Chocoa (Amsterdam Chocolate Festival), and Calle de Café Santa Rosa de Cabal, as well as at regular farmers’ markets and city markets. She works closely with the Municipality of Fogo in Cabo Verde to promote their coffee, and she is also a regular voice on Colombian radio, sharing stories, insights, and expertise about coffee culture and sustainability.

Carolina hosts passionate, informative sensory cuppings in both the Netherlands and Colombia, sharing her knowledge of specialty coffee. She holds multiple SCA memberships (personal and company) and has completed various SCA courses, including Green Coffee, Coffee Roasting, and CVA Cuppers.

Luz Nidia

Owner of the farm and matriarch of Finca La Holandesa, Luz Nidia has a lifelong connection to the Eje Cafetero. A teacher by profession, she moved to Tolima at a young age to pursue her career in education. As she approached retirement, she felt the calling to return to her roots in the coffee region to fulfill her dream of farming coffee.

With a keen eye for coffee quality and harvesting, Luz Nidia serves as our go-to expert for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). She is deeply passionate about campesino rights and is a strong supporter of the local community in El Manzanillo, advocating for fair treatment, opportunity, and sustainability in coffee farming.

Dany Javier

Dany Javier, son of Luz Nidia and brother to Carolina, is a coffee specialist with a strong academic and professional background. He holds a B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s in Agricultural Studies, combining technical expertise with deep agricultural knowledge. Over his career, Dany has worked with respected institutions such as the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (FNC) and SENA, contributing to projects across Colombia.

His expertise spans coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing, making him a key figure in ensuring the quality and consistency of the Finca La Holandesa production. Dany brings both scientific precision and hands-on experience to the farm, ensuring that every step, from crop management to final processing, meets the highest standards.

Angela

Ángela, cousin to Carolina and Dany, is based in Santa Rosa de Cabal, near the famous Termales hot springs. She runs Takuaras, a boutique hostel and café/restaurant, where visitors can enjoy excellent comfort, quality food, live music and events and a complete specialty coffee experience alongside guided tours of the local area. Takuaras is a popular destination for tourists, especially backpackers and families looking to immerse themselves in the authentic coffee region experience.

A physiotherapist by profession, Ángela offers treatments on-site, blending wellness with hospitality. Her café/restaurant is known for its unique, intimate atmosphere and focus on high-quality, locally sourced products. Ángela is also active in coffee events, representing Colombian coffee both locally and internationally, with participation in gatherings across Colombia and Europe.
